Touch Not My Anointed! Chapter 2
Numbers 34:1-12
Then Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,
2 "Command the sons of Israel and say to them, "When you enter the land of Canaan, this is the land that shall fall to you as an inheritance, even the land of Canaan according to its borders.
3 "Your southern sector shall extend from the wilderness of Zin along the side of Edom, and your southern border shall extend from the end of the Salt Sea eastward.
4 "Then your border shall turn direction from the south to the ascent of Akrabbim and continue to Zin, and its termination shall be to the south of Kadesh-barnea; and it shall reach Hazaraddar and continue to Azmon.
5 "The border shall turn direction from Azmon to the brook of Egypt, and its termination shall be at the sea.
6 "As for the western border, you shall have the Great Sea, that is, its coastline; this shall be your west border.
7 "And this shall be your north border: you shall draw your border line from the Great Sea to Mount Hor.
8 "You shall draw a line from Mount Hor to the Lebo-hamath, and the termination of the border shall be at Zedad;
9 and the border shall proceed to Ziphron, and its termination shall be at Hazar-enan. This shall be your north border.
10 "For your eastern border you shall also draw a line from Hazar-enan to Shepham,
11 and the border shall go down from Shepham to Riblah on the east side of Ain; and the border shall go down and reach to the slope on the east side of the Sea of Chinnereth.
12 "And the border shall go down to the Jordan and its termination shall be at the Salt Sea. This shall be your land according to its borders all around.'"
I want you to see that the land that God gave to Israel, and the borders that God established, are much larger than the current state of Israel today. Israel’s land actually includes much of Lebanon, Syria and Jordan, as well as a portion of land in the Negev that is contested by Egypt.
Notice the areas that have the dashed lines around them. These are the areas where we hear about the greatest conflicts taking place today, and these are the areas that the Arab nations want Israel to immediately give back to Arab control. These areas are The Gaza Strip, The West Bank, and the Golan Heights.
Notice that all of these “contested” areas lie within the borders that God gave to Israel. God set the Western border of Israel as the Great Sea, or the Mediterranean Sea, so we know that the Gaza Strip is actually part of Israel’s land.
The West Bank is all west of the Jordan River, and it was this river that God set as Israel’s western border between the Sea of Chinnereth and the Dead Sea, or Salt Sea. The Palestinians want Israel to give up all of this territory, but God gave it to Abraham and his descendants forever.
Then there is the Golan Heights. This area is also well within the borders God established for Israel.
America has placed herself right in the midst of this struggle over Israel’s land. The United States has sought for decades to be the peace broker in this land. President Nixon and his secretary of State Henry Kissinger, sought to bring peace between Israel and her neighbors. So did President Carter with his Camp David Accords. Then there was President Reagan, President Bush, President Clinton, and now the second President Bush, who have all sought to be the peace brokers for the region.
As we saw in the last presentation, “Black Oil Anointing”, America is not an unbiased arbiter in this matter. America desperately needs Arab oil, and so she has sought to placate the Arab nations by strenuously urging Israel time after time to give portions of her land back to Arab control.
At the same time, America tells Israel that she will protect her from her enemies, and she seeks to make Israel rely heavily upon America’s ability to deliver her from the threats of those who want to destroy her. Yet God wants His people to look to Him alone as their protector. He has reproved Israel and her leaders many times before because they have put their confidence in the ability of others to save her. And have no doubt, God will remove all supports that Israel is leaning upon until they only have Him to lean upon. If this means that God must humble America to the point that Israel will never again put her confidence in this nation as her protector, then God will humble America.
Zechariah 12:2-10
"Behold, I am going to make Jerusalem a cup that causes reeling to all the peoples around... It will come about in that day that I will make Jerusalem a heavy stone for all the peoples; all who lift it will be severely injured. And all the nations of the earth will be gathered against it...
I will pour out on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the Spirit of grace and of supplication, so that they will look on Me whom they have pierced; and they will mourn for Him, as one mourns for an only son, and they will weep bitterly over Him like the bitter weeping over a firstborn.”
I want to show you that the first part of this prophecy is being fulfilled, and surely the latter part of this prophecy will be fulfilled soon. A day is soon coming when Israel will mourn as for an only son, they will weep bitterly when their eyes are opened to see that they crucified their Messiah. He was pierced for their sins, and all Israel will repent and be healed.
But first we read that there would be nations who try to carry the burden of Israel, and all who carry this “burden will be severely injured.”
What is this prophecy speaking of? It is speaking of the very thing America has been attempting to do. America has presented herself as the Nation that can heal the afflictions of Israel. Every American President for the past 30 years has sought to bring peace to Israel, but there has been no peace. This is also spoken of in Scripture.
Jeremiah 8:11
“They heal the brokenness of the daughter of My people superficially,
Saying, ‘Peace, peace,’ But there is no peace.”
America has sought to do that which God has said that only He can do. No nation can bring peace to the land of Israel. Every nation that tries to lift this burden will be severely injured. For God has said,
Jeremiah 30:10-17
0'Fear not, O Jacob My servant,' declares Yahweh, 'And do not be dismayed, O Israel; For behold, I will save you from afar and your offspring from the land of their captivity. And Jacob will return and will be quiet and at ease, and no one will make him afraid. 'For I am with you,' declares Yahweh, "to save you; For I will destroy completely all the nations where I have scattered you, only I will not destroy you completely. But I will chasten you justly and will by no means leave you unpunished.' For thus says Yahweh, 'Your wound is incurable and your injury is serious. There is no one to plead your cause; no healing for your sore, no recovery for you. All your lovers have forgotten you, they do not seek you; for I have wounded you with the wound of an enemy, with the punishment of a cruel one, because your iniquity is great and your sins are numerous. Why do you cry out over your injury? Your pain is incurable. Because your iniquity is great and your sins are numerous, I have done these things to you. Therefore all who devour you will be devoured; and all your adversaries, every one of them, will go into captivity; And those who plunder you will be for plunder, and all who prey upon you I will give for prey. For I will restore you to health and I will heal you of your wounds,' declares Yahweh, 'Because they have called you an outcast, saying: "It is Zion; no one cares for her."'
For a long season beginning at AD 70 when Titus captured Jerusalem and crucified a million Jews, burned the city with fire, and destroyed the Temple so that not one stone remained upon another - until the year 1947, Israel ceased to be a nation. God had to severely punish His children because of their great sins, and their rejection of their Messiah. Yet He never forsook them.
His eye has always been upon them, and He has now gathered them back into their own land again.
The Scriptures had to be fulfilled:
Amos 9:13-15
Behold, days are coming," declares Yahweh, "When... I will restore the captivity of My people Israel, and they will rebuild the ruined cities and live in them; They will also plant vineyards and drink their wine, and make gardens and eat their fruit. I will also plant them on their land, and they will not again be rooted out from their land which I have given them," says Yawheh your God.
In 1947 the United Nations issued a Resolution for a Jewish state to be created in Palestine. Since then Israel has faced great opposition from her Arab neighbors who vowed to destroy her and drive her people into the sea. Yet despite several wars against tremendous odds, Israel has decidedly won each conflict and expanded her borders with each war. In 1967 she nearly doubled her size during the 6 days war. In 1973 she was again faced with conflict during the Yom Kippur war, the end result being that she took possession of the West Bank of the Jordan, Jerusalem and the Wailing Wall. God has said that they would not be rooted out from their land again, and despite billions of dollars of Soviet military assistance, and the combined military of Egypt, Syria, Jordan and other Arab nations, Israel has stood firm and prevailed.
Israel has known constant threats, and the hatred of many nations who want to destroy her. Only God can bring peace to her borders, and peace to the hearts of His people. Those who try to lift Israel, and to carry this burden will be severely injured, for God wants all men to know that they cannot bring peace to Israel, and He does not want Israel to look to man for her salvation.
Yet America has convinced Israel that she can be Israel’s deliverer from her enemies all around. Time after time she has convinced Israel’s leaders to sit down at bargaining tables while one peace proposal after another has been set forth. Yet every attempt has failed.
And America has sought her own desire in these attempts, for she has encouraged Israel to give away her territory, not because it is the righteous thing to do, but because America wants the oil that the Arab nations control.
