The Untamed Beast
Joseph Herrin (11-4-03)
An explicit message was given to the saints in the month of October, and it contains a warning that great care and attention must be given at this time to ruling over the flesh. There is a tendency to lessen our vigilance against such things as sexual lust, covetousness, and anger, and we may think that our indulgences of the flesh will not lead to anything serious, or harmful, but the explicit signs given reveal that this is not so. We are in an hour where things we thought were safe will prove to be the undoing of many. Many who have thought it harmless to entertain lustful thoughts and view the occasional pornographic picture, or read or view titillating items in the media, on TV or in the movies, will find themselves being given over to these thoughts they have been feeding. When temptation and opportunity suddenly arises many saints and ministers will find that they are overwhelmed by sudden impulses of the beast nature of man, and they will commit grievous sins that will bring devastating shame to them, and which will disqualify many for the callings God has on their lives.
In the span of one week there were three highly unusual news items that were all of a similar theme. All involved men or women who had for a time walked and lived with beasts that are incredibly powerful and dangerous, and they had grown comfortable with these beasts. Suddenly, and without warning, these beasts turned on their “masters” and caused severe injury, and even death. That this happened three times in the span of a week is significant, and it speaks of a heightened danger of the saints being spiritually injured, or killed by unexpected arousal of the beast nature that lies within every man and woman.
Let me briefly cover each of these three news items by listing excerpts from the news.
Roy of Siegfried and Roy critical after mauling
Saturday, October 4, 2003 Posted: 6:20 PM EDT (2220 GMT)
LAS VEGAS, Nevada (CNN) -- A 7-year-old white tiger attacked Roy Horn of Siegfried and Roy during a Friday night performance on the Las Vegas strip -- the magician and trainer's 59th birthday.
Horn was listed as critical Saturday, according to the University Medical Center for emergency surgery's recorded message service, updated at 2:30 a.m. (5:30 a.m. ET).
The tiger lunged at Horn's neck about half-way through the show, and dragged him off stage, audience members said. "He looked like a rag doll in his mouth," said Kirk Baser, from Pennsylvania....

Tiger owner says he sought animal haven

Antoine Yates said he was trying to create "a paradise" for his menagerie, which included a 400-pound tiger.
NEW YORK (CNN) -- A New York man who kept a 400-pound tiger and 280-pound alligator as pets in his apartment said Monday that he was trying to create a sanctuary for the animals and that he had not put others at risk...
Yates said he took the 3-month-old Bengal tiger cub he called Ming into his apartment two years ago and created a "playpen" in one of his bedrooms.
The two bonded as the animal grew, and they often slept together, Yates said. "We cuddled," he said.
Yates said he came to trust the animal more than he did people...
Nevertheless, Yates' plan began to unravel after a bite from Ming. On October 1, Yates sought treatment at Harlem Hospital for a bite that he told doctors had been caused by a pit bull....

Fatal bear mauling recorded on tape
Thursday, October 9, 2003 Posted: 7:09 PM EDT (2309 GMT)
The remains of Timothy Treadwell, left, and his girlfriend Amie Huguenard were found Monday.
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) -- The graphic sounds of a deadly bear attack in the Alaska wilderness were captured on tape, revealing a wildlife author's final, frantic screams as he tried to fend off the beast, authorities said Wednesday.
Trooper Chris Hill said the tape suggests a video camera was turned on just before Timothy Treadwell was attacked at his campsite. His girlfriend, Amie Huguenard, was later mauled to death by a bear. The recording is audio only, and the screen is blank for all six minutes.
"They're both screaming, she's telling him to play dead, then it changes to fighting back. He asks her to hit the bear," Hill said. "There's so much noise going on. I don't know what's him and what might be an animal.
"It's pretty disturbing. I keep hearing it in my mind."
The remains of Treadwell, 46, and Huguenard, 37, both of Malibu, California, were found Monday at Katmai National Park and Preserve on the Alaska Peninsula. Treadwell was known for approaching, even touching, bears in the wild....
Troopers recovered video and still photography equipment as well as three hours of earlier video footage from the site, across Shelikof Strait from Kodiak Island.
Much of the footage is close-up shots of bears. Some scenes show bears no more than a few feet from Treadwell, co-author of "Among Grizzlies: Living With Wild Bears in Alaska." Others show a more timid Huguenard leaning away as bears come close to her on the bank of a river.
[End of news]
What was apparent from each of these incidents is that a temporary period of success by man in cohabitating with wild animals ended in sudden disaster. During the period of peace, undoubtedly the people involved had grown confident that this peaceful coexistence would continue on unabated, but in each instance it was seen that the nature of the beasts was only temporarily suppressed and was awaiting a moment of release.
I sense a warning in my spirit that many children of God have also been living in what seems to be a peaceful coexistence with the beast nature within them, and thus far no great harm has occurred. They have taken no steps to distance themselves from the beast, to “flee from youthful lusts” (II Timothy 2:22), to “flee immorality” (I Corinthians 6:18), to “flee idolatry” (I Corinthians 10:14), to “put off anger” (Colossians 3:8). Many are foolishly allowing these things to continue to remain in their lives. They are providing a shelter for them, and even feeding them, not understanding that the thing they are feeding is seeking an opportunity to overcome them and leave them maimed, or worse.
Throughout Scriptures wild animals are used as symbols of the fallen beast nature of man and the impulses that arise from this fallen nature. The depiction of the children of Israel going into the land of promise to dispossess the inhabitants is a spiritual type and shadow of man taking possession of his own soul. Even as Joshua (Hebrew Yahshua) led the descendants of Abraham into their possession, so Christians are led by the Messiah Yahshua to take possession of the vessels of their body and to turn what was a haven of idolatry, impurity and carnal desires, into a purified temple where the Holy Spirit of God dwells. In reading about the conquest of the land by those who followed Joshua, we observe the following:
Deuteronomy 7:22
Yahweh your God will clear away these nations before you little by little; you will not be able to put an end to them quickly, for the wild beasts would grow too numerous for you.
Even as Yahweh did not deliver the entire land of promise to Israel in a day, so too as Christians we find that our salvation does not come in a single moment, but it must be worked out with fear and trembling. When Paul wrote to the Corinthian church he spoke the following words which are easily overlooked:
I Corinthians 1:18
For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
Paul did not say “to us who have BEEN saved”, but rather, “to us who are BEING saved”. The word salvation is synonymous with the word deliverance, and being delivered from the sinful nature, from lust and anger and idolatry and every form of wickedness is a lifelong process for the saint. We must daily choose to take up the cross, to “crucify the flesh with its affections and lusts” (Galatians 5:24). If we should make peace with the flesh, and even begin to feed it, we will find that one day we will reap the results of our actions. The saints are to be warned with the words, “Woe to those who are at ease in Zion”. A war is raging and there can be no truce with the enemy. We must walk circumspectly, as wise and not foolish, for the days are evil.
The Spirit is signifying at this time that it is a time of great peril, for spirits of lust and sensuality and anger and idolatry and depression, etc., are increasing in their activity. Satan and his demons are going around seeking whom they may devour. They know who has been feeding the beast nature in their lives, and they are seeking an opportunity to arouse the beast to turn upon them.
A day of great trial and testing is soon to come upon the earth, and those who would be spared from the hour of testing must be diligent to flee from all evil, wickedness, idolatry and immorality now. They must seek righteousness, and humble themselves before God that they might be accounted worthy to be hidden in the day of trouble.
Zephaniah 2:3
Seek Yahweh, all you humble of the earth who have carried out His ordinances; Seek righteousness, seek humility. Perhaps you will be hidden in the day of Yahweh’s anger.
Revelation 3:10
Because you have kept the word of My perseverance, I also will keep you from the hour of testing, that hour which is about to come upon the whole world, to test those who dwell on the earth.
It is a time to embrace the disciple’s cross which will put the flesh and the desires of the soul to death. It is a time to endure hardship, and to crucify the flesh. As the apostle Peter declared:
I Peter 4:1-3
Therefore, since Christ has suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same purpose, because he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, so as to live the rest of the time in the flesh no longer for the lusts of men, but for the will of God. For the time already past is sufficient for you to have carried out the desire of the Gentiles, having pursued a course of sensuality, lusts, drunkenness, carousing, drinking parties and abominable idolatries.
Saints, the Spirit testifies that great danger lies crouching at the door of many lives. We must heed the words that God spoke to Cain:
Genesis 4:6-7
Then Yahweh said to Cain, "Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen? If you do well, will not your countenance be lifted up? And if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door; and its desire is for you, but you must master it."
In an hour when many are focused on the dangers outside of them in the world, it is that which lies within that will be the undoing of many.
